In this post about Squarespace pricing, we are going to look at:
How much does it cost to build a Squarespace website in the UK?
DIY option
If you’re fairly tech savvy and have time to burn, you can build your own Squarespace website. The platform is user-friendly and comes with some basic templates. You’ll just need to pay for your plan and domain.
But just because you can, it doesn’t always mean that you should (read: Why hire a professional Squarespace website designer when you could DIY it). So if the thought of wrestling with layouts and fonts and having to figure out what CSS and SEO is makes you want to cry, there’s another option.
Professional Squarespace website design
Hiring a pro means:
A website that actually converts. It will be strategically designed inline with your business goals, whether that’s to convert visitors into clients, make sales, grow your mailing list or build brand awareness. A professional website designer will be able to nail all of this for you and the difference it will make to your business is huge.
Custom design tailored to your brand, because you can’t beat the keen design eye, the years of experience and the general “we know how best to make this work” vibe of a professional website designer.
Tech handled for you (no more headaches!), because honestly, running a business is hard enough, without having to navigate words like hosting, DNS, CSS, domain and SSL certificate.
Assuming you went down the professional route, the first step and the biggest upfront cost is getting your Squarespace website designed and built. To outsource a fully bespoke Squarespace website to a professional, you are looking at anywhere between £2000 - £8000. There is obviously a huge variation between these costs and it depends on what you want and who you use as to where you will sit on that scale.
At Studio Emm, I’ve taken everything I’ve learned during my 20+ year career in website design and the small business world, and I’ve developed the *perfect* website package for female founders and business owners.
The 2-Day Launch is a semi-custom, strategic Squarespace website experience designed to take you from DIY disaster to big brand energy, all in just two days. Because guess what? Most small businesses don’t need a £5k bespoke website to be successful. But you do need to invest in better than DIY. And a semi-custom website is the perfect way to achieve this.
Once your new Squarespace website is built, there are other ongoing costs to consider. The first is your Squarespace hosting plan.
Squarespace - UK pricing plans
Squarespace is an all-in-one platform. They host your website, handle backend maintenance, and give you all the tools you need to run your online home.
Here’s the 2026 pricing breakdown:
Basic Plan (£12/month - save 25% annually)
This is the starter plan. It’s great for blogs or simple portfolios, but there’s no e-commerce (so no selling products). You also miss out on some marketing, analytics tools and custom CSS.
Core Plan (£17/month - save 29% annually)
This is the plan most of my clients use. You get access to marketing features like pop-ups and announcement bars and you can customise the CSS. You can also sell digital and physical products with this place, however Squarespace takes a 3% transaction fee on sales.
Plus Basic (£29/month - save 19% annually)
Say goodbye to that 3% transaction fee! This plan is perfect for small online stores that anticipate making a lot of sale and includes features like customer accounts and analytics on abandoned shopping carts.
Advanced (£79/month - save 11% annually)
This is the big leagues. You get everything from the lower plans, plus advanced shipping, subscription selling, and more customisation for your checkout. If you’re looking for this level of commerce however, it might be worth considering Shopify.
✨ Pro Tip: You get a 14-day free trial when you sign up for Squarespace. But if I build your website? You’ll get a 6 month free trial, plus 20% off your first years Squarespace subscription.
Squarespace add-ons: What else might you pay for?
Squarespace is a one-stop shop for everything a small business owner needs to run their business. There are some great add-ons that can really help you level-up your website and increase your revenue, but they do come with additional charges. Let’s take a look.
Email Marketing
Want to send professional-looking, on-brand newsletters? Squarespace’s Email Campaigns feature integrates beautifully and it’s really easy to use. It can send basic and automated emails and is perfect if you don’t need complex email marketing features.
£7/month (500 emails per month)
£11/month (5,000 emails per month)
£16/month (10,000 emails per month)
£22/month (25,000 emails per month)
You can save up to 30% on these costs by paying annually for your email marketing subscription.
Scheduling
If you’re a coach, consultant or service provider, Squarespace Scheduling can streamline your bookings. It gives your clients (and potential clients) a really easy way to book appointments with you. You can specify your availability and the length of the booking slots.
Starter: £12/month (Save 8% annually)
Standard: £22/month (Save 9% annually)
Premium: £40/month (Save 7% annually)
Domains
Squarespace gives you a free domain for the first year (if you pay annually), but after that, expect to pay approximately £20 a year for most domain renewals. If you already have a domain, this can be connected to your Squarespace account.
Custom Email (via Google Workspace)
If you want to setup a professional email like yourname@yourbusiness.com (which I would recommend if you don’t yet have one), you can do this using Squarespace, via Google Workspace. That’s approx. £5/month per user.
What does all this add up to?
Let’s say you’re a service based business that needs custom CSS options, pop-up windows and email marketing. Here’s a rough monthly breakdown:
Squarespace Core Plan: £17/month
Email marketing (500 emails per month): £7/month
Domain: £20/year (roughly £1.67/month)
Total: Approx £25.67 a month
If you choose annual billing? Even cheaper. And choose to work with me for your website? EVEN CHEAPER.
How does Squarespace pricing compare to other website platforms in the UK?
When you look beyond Squarespace to other website builders and hosting options, you’ll quickly see that pricing varies depending on what you need your website to do.
Here’s how Squarespace’s costs stack up against a few popular alternatives at entry level:
Squarespace: £12-£16/month (self hosted)
Wix: £9/month (self hosted)
Wordpress: Free to download but you’ll need to pay for hosting, themes and plugins etc.
Shopify: £19/month (self hosted)
*These figures refer to the plan price only. Most platforms require extra spend on things like domain registration, email, premium templates or plugins, and sometimes transaction or plugin fees.
What Squarespace does better (especially vs Wix / WordPress.com)
All-in-one simplicity. Squarespace bundles hosting, templates, emails, booking systems, domains and site maintenance in one neat package. For many small businesses, especially service-based ones or creatives, that all-in-one convenience can make it worth paying slightly more compared with piecing together hosting + plugins in WordPress.
Predictable costs. With Squarespace, you know roughly what you’re paying each month. You don’t need to shop around for hosting, worry about plugin compatibility or deal with hosting upgrades.
Stability with less fuss. You know where you’re at with Squarespace. You don’t need to fight with WordPress updates or plugin conflicts. Squarespace gives a smoother, cleaner experience. Perfect for website newbies.
When other platforms might be cheaper (or more flexible) than Squarespace
SUPER-basic presence/side-project: If you just need a simple website or blog, WordPress.com’s low-cost plans (from ~£3/month) or Wix’s light plan (from ~£9/month) are significantly less expensive than even the starter Squarespace plan. But it IS super basic and only recommended if you aren’t trying to build a business and make money.
Maximal flexibility/custom features long-term: If you want advanced customisation or bespoke plugins and you are comfortable DIYing hosting, plugins, security and updates, a self-hosted WordPress site can end up cheaper than Squarespace over time (especially if you pick budget hosting). But this is only recommended for people with existing web development experience or the time and willing to learn.
Large ecommerce or advanced store needs: While Squarespace covers most small-to-medium shop needs, if you need enterprise-level ecommerce with complex inventory, many sales channels, advanced payment or shipping setups, platforms designed specifically for ecommerce, such as Shopify, may offer more powerful scaling, sometimes with competitive pricing depending on plugins, hosting, etc.

My take (as someone who builds websites for small business clients)
Squarespace is the website “sweet spot” for small businesses, freelancers, creatives and coaches who want a polished, professional website without the constant maintenance drama. It’s rarely the cheapest, but it gives the best balance of price, ease, reliability and style.
If you just need a very simple site or blog, you can save cash with WordPress.com or Wix. If you need a highly complex site or store, or want full control over backend hosting and custom features, a self-hosted setup (or a fully-featured e-commerce platform) may out-perform Squarespace on value overall.
But for most small businesses, especially ones that value time, design and ease over hours and hours of YouTube videos and hair pulling, Squarespace pricing gives excellent value.
